Dr. Jon Gerrard Visits Lemolo IDP Camp

Dr. Jon Gerrard was the Director of Paediatric Oncology and Hematology at the Children's Hospital from 1985 to 1992. He also taught medicine at the University of Manitoba from 1980 to 1993. Four years to follow, Dr. Gerrad became secretary of state for the Chrétien government and was then leader of the Manitoba Liberal Party from 1998-2013.

It was to our surprise when Dr. Jon Gerrard contacted the organization to advise us that he learned about our organization and was heading in to an excursion across Kenya with his wife. He was interested in visiting the latest project we were working on, the borehole project in the Lemolo IDP Camp. Through some coordination with KIDS Initiative and VICDA, we arranged for Dr. Gerrard and his wife to visit the Camp and learn more about the impact KIDS has had in the community and what efforts are left to successfully render the program sustainable.

A huge thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Gerrard for your interest and support in our programs, we're grateful to have had a part in your trip and honoured that you visited the program!

HOLES OF HOPE

HOLES OF HOPE

“Days and nights have been faced in equal measure by the residents of the Lemolo community in their quest to get the basic commodity to life, water. The temporary river within the community dried up in November last year when short rains stopped. The water shortage has affected every aspect of the community’s lives.” Korgoren Leonard
